They are also used to provide more memory on other portable multimedia gadgets. If you own a multimedia device and you do not have an external storage device, it is probably because the device has not seen much use.

However, despite the fact that the device is designed to provide you with more storage space, there is bound to be a time when it will be filled with files. The reason for this is that you will always find multimedia files that will interest you on a daily basis. The good news is that you can delete some of the files to provide extra space.

As time goes on, you may start to notice some errors in the operation of the storage device. The errors will become frequent as you delete more files to create room for new ones. Some of the errors include unexplainable loss of files, sudden corruption of files and freezing of the device when you try to access it from your phone.

If any of the aforementioned is happening to your files, you need to know that you storage device now has registry issues. Registry issues are simply one of the evils that ail storage devices. They usually occur when your storage device has backlog of accumulated bytes of data. In simple words, when you delete files repeatedly, some bytes will remain, when such files have accumulated, they will slow your device down.

To solve this problem so that your device can be as fast as it was when you first bought it and for your files to be safe, you will need to format the device. To format the device means that you are erasing everything in the storage at a level that is cleaner than what a deletion can do.

To do this, access the storage on your phone or multimedia device, in the options, you will find a format icon. If you click on the icon, every piece of data on the storage device will be cleared. However, if you still need some of the files, it may be wise to copy them in another location, preferably a CD; this is because the formatting command is irreversible.

For faster formatting of your device, you may use a card reader to access the storage from your computer. When you go to the Computer Icon, memory cards are usually located in one of the disk drives. By right clicking on the drive, you will get a drop down menu of options and will surely find a format device command in the options.
